LAWMA Urges Proper Waste Management During Eid-al-Kabir Celebrations
As the Eid-al-Kabir festivities approach, the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has called on residents to adopt proper waste management practices to ensure a clean and healthy environment during and after the celebrations.
Key Messages from LAWMA
Proper Waste Disposal: Residents are urged to bag and containerize their waste, especially animal waste, food remnants, and packaging materials, for timely evacuation by assigned Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators.
Avoid Indiscriminate Dumping: LAWMA warns against dumping waste on road medians, drainage channels, and open spaces, emphasizing that such actions compromise public health and attract penalties.
Use Approved Slaughter Facilities: Butchers and livestock dealers are encouraged to utilize approved slaughter facilities to minimize contamination and maintain sanitary standards.
Enforcement and Monitoring: LAWMA officials and enforcement teams will be actively monitoring waste disposal activities across the metropolis to ensure compliance with best practices during and after the festivities.
World Environment Day 2025
In alignment with the 2025 World Environment Day theme, “Putting an End to Plastic Pollution,” LAWMA has initiated advocacy and clean-up campaigns in collaboration with environmental stakeholders, schools, and community-based organizations. The agency emphasizes that environmental restoration is a sustained process requiring individual choices and community-based actions.
