The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has suspended former governor and serving senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, alongside Hon. Kunle Folarin, over allegations of anti-party activities and disregard for party disciplinary procedures.
The announcement came after the party’s Ogun State Working Committee (SWC) ratified resolutions from their respective ward executives in Sagamu Local Government Area. Daniel was suspended by Ward 4, while Folarin faced suspension from Ward 6. The decision was endorsed during the APC SWC meeting held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, under the chairmanship of Chief Yemi Sanusi.
Reasons Behind the Suspension
According to a statement by the party’s Publicity Director, Nuberu Olufemi, the suspensions followed multiple allegations of:
Anti-party activities, including actions seen as undermining the APC’s constitution.
Failure to appear before disciplinary panels despite being duly invited to defend themselves.
Interference and harassment, where both men were accused of pressuring party members to withdraw petitions against them.
The party stressed that the two politicians were given “ample opportunities” to clear their names but deliberately ignored all attempts at reconciliation and due process.
Party’s Position
The Ogun APC emphasized that the suspensions are indefinite, pending the outcome of ongoing internal investigations. The SWC underscored its commitment to discipline, unity, and fairness within the party, stating that no individual is above the rules guiding its operations.
“The decision was not taken lightly but was necessary to preserve the integrity of the APC and uphold discipline among members,” the statement read.
Wider Political Context
The development comes amid increasing political tension in Ogun State, where Gbenga Daniel has reportedly clashed with Governor Dapo Abiodun over various political and administrative issues. Recently, Daniel’s properties in Sagamu were served with quit and contravention notices, which many observers linked to the growing rift between the two political heavyweights.
While the APC insists the suspension is strictly a disciplinary matter, political analysts believe it could reshape alignments ahead of future elections in the state.
For now, both Daniel and Folarin remain suspended from all APC activities at ward, state, and national levels until further notice. The party has left the door open for possible reconciliation if the duo chooses to comply with its disciplinary processes.
