US Senate Set for Pivotal Vote on Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill

The US Senate is poised to vote today on the sweeping \$940-page legislation dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a Trump-backed measure promising massive tax cuts, spending shifts, and new policies impacting millions of Americans.

Over the weekend, the bill cleared a key procedural hurdle by a narrow 51-49 vote. Republican Senators Thom Tillis and Rand Paul broke with their party, citing concerns over the bill’s impact on Medicaid, soaring deficits, and deep cuts to social programs.

The legislation extends and makes permanent much of the 2017 Trump-era tax cuts while also introducing new deductions for tip income and overtime pay. It also tightens asylum fees, rolls back clean-energy credits in favor of fossil-fuel incentives, and makes major cuts to Medicaid and SNAP benefits. Analysts say the bill could add \$3.3 trillion to the national deficit over the next decade and leave nearly 12 million more Americans uninsured by 2034.

President Trump and Senate Republicans argue the package will fuel economic growth, strengthen national security, and keep America globally competitive. Democrats, meanwhile, have blasted the proposal as a gift to the wealthy at the expense of working families.

Over the weekend, Democrats forced a 16-hour reading of the bill in an attempt to stall the final vote. Today, the Senate will conduct a marathon amendment session before the pivotal up-or-down vote expected later this evening.

If approved, the bill heads back to the House for final tweaks and then to Trump’s desk. Trump has vowed to sign the measure by July 4th, calling it “a historic victory for the American people.”

Stay tuned for updates as the vote unfolds.
