In a decisive push against terrorism and insecurity, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched precision airstrikes in Niger State, neutralizing scores of terrorists, while the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, visited Benue State to hold peace talks with traditional rulers and local authorities.
NAF Strikes Terrorist Hideouts in Niger
Between June 24 and 26, the NAF carried out targeted air raids on terrorist camps in Kakihun and Kumbashi communities, Niger State. These locations had been linked to recent deadly ambushes, including an attack on the Bangi community where 17 soldiers lost their lives.
According to Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the strikes effectively dismantled the terrorists’ logistical operations and supply chains, preventing further regrouping and attacks on civilians. He praised the professionalism of the airmen and their coordination with ground troops, stressing the military’s commitment to eradicating terrorism in the region.
CDS General Musa Visits Benue for Peace Talks
As the military intensifies its offensive in Niger, General Musa was in Benue State engaging local leaders, including Governor Alia, the Tor Tiv, Ochidoma, and other community heads. His mission: build consensus and local solutions to persistent herder-farmer clashes and bandit attacks.
General Musa reaffirmed the armed forces’ readiness to protect all citizens, stressing that peace efforts must involve traditional rulers and community-led vigilance groups. He highlighted plans to set up community-backed security networks and a new inclusive peace committee as part of President Tinubu’s wider security strategy.
