On the night of May 28, 2025, torrential rains led to severe flooding in Mokwa, particularly affecting the districts of Tiffin Maza and Anguwan Hausawa. The floods submerged entire communities, causing significant destruction and loss of life. As of June 3, the official death toll stands at over 200, with more than 500 individuals still missing and presumed dead. Over 3,000 residents have been displaced, and more than 500 households have been affected. Two roads and two bridges were washed away, disrupting transportation and access to essential services.

Yusuf survived by swimming to safety and now faces the daunting task of rebuilding his life.
