Former Nigerian First Lady, Dame (Dr.) Patience Jonathan, has recently been honored with two prestigious accolades that underscore her continued commitment to education and women’s empowerment.
🎓 Honorary Doctorate in Psychology
On June 2, 2025, Dame Patience Jonathan was awarded an honorary Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Psychology, Guidance, and Counselling by Ignatius Ajuru University of Education in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. She was among the graduates at the university’s 43rd convocation ceremony. In her acceptance speech, she emphasized that age should not be a barrier to pursuing academic dreams, encouraging Nigerians, especially women and youth, to embrace lifelong learning. She also expressed gratitude to her family, particularly her husband, former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, for their unwavering support.
🌍 Global Women’s Peace Ambassador Award
Earlier, in April 2025, Dame Jonathan was honored with the Global Women’s Peace Ambassador Award by the Women’s Federation for World Peace International (WFWPI) in Seoul, South Korea. The award recognized her efforts in promoting peace, advocating for women’s rights, and her remarkable service to humanity. In her acceptance speech, she pledged to continue advocating for women’s rights, peacebuilding, and social justice, calling on others to join the noble cause. She also thanked her family and fellow Africans for their support in building peaceful and progressive societies.
