The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has arrested a notorious suspected ritualist, Obi Levi Obieze, also known as Levi Obu Onyeka, in Enugu State. Obieze, a native doctor from Umuojor village in Isiagu Community, was apprehended on May 29, 2025, while attempting to flee the country on a motorcycle at the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme Road.
Earlier, the Enugu State Police Command had declared Obieze wanted for his alleged involvement in the kidnapping of a 13-year-old girl earlier that week. The victim was reportedly abducted by three men while walking with her father to the farm and was later rescued by police operatives from a shrine purportedly linked to the suspect.
The NIS confirmed Obieze’s identity through a National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) enrollment slip found in his possession. During initial questioning, he admitted to the alleged crimes. The suspect is currently in custody, and the NIS is collaborating with the Nigeria Police Force for his handover and further investigation. The NIS reaffirmed its commitment to border security and the fight against human trafficking and ritual killings.
Arrest and Attempted Escape

2. Discovery of Decomposing Bodies
Earlier, in Umuojor village, Umumba Ndiagu community, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, two decomposing bodies were discovered in a soakaway pit within Obieze’s compound. The bodies were identified as pregnant women, allegedly buried alive for ritual purposes. This discovery followed the abduction of a 13-year-old girl, who was later rescued from a shrine linked to Obieze.

The community reacted with outrage upon learning of the abduction and the subsequent discovery of the bodies. Irate youths set fire to Obieze’s residence and shrines. A video surfaced showing the suspect being dragged naked by community members before being handed over to security agents. The Enugu State government ordered the demolition of his mansion.

In the video, the 13-year-old girl recounts her ordeal, describing how she was abducted while walking with her father to the farm.
