The Pope called for the release of detainees and the reunion of estranged families, expressing his profound compassion for the suffering of the Ukrainian people.
In the hopes that it would result in a long-term deal, he also praised the recent truce between India and Pakistan.
As the bells of St. Peter’s Basilica tolled, the audience, which was made up of marching bands in town for a special Jubilee weekend, burst into cheers and music.
