For alleged slander, gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has sued Martins Otse, commonly known as VeryDarkMan, a social media commenter.
Chinwo was accused by VeryDarkMan in February of embezzling money from performances without paying her previous record label, which was owned by Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu.
In addition, he asserted that the singer had broken her label contract prior to her departure.
Pelumi Olajengbesi, Chinwo’s attorney, characterized VDM’s remarks as “libellous, malicious, and damaging” to the singer’s reputation in a March 3 complaint.
Although Olajengbesi said that VDM had nothing to do with the conflict between Chinwo and EeZee Tee, he misrepresented the situation in a way that damaged the singer’s reputation.
He charged VDM with favoring EeZee Tee’s side in the dispute while sharing a number of videos with his millions of followers that displayed a “caricaturist and disdainful portrayal of the Claimant (Chinwo)”.
According to Olajengbesi, the films were intentionally created to make fun of Chinwo.”The Claimant asserts that she has no relationship with the Defendant and that the Defendant was not involved in the matter between the Claimant and Mr. EeZee T in any significant way,” he said.
“The Claimant asserts that the Defendant’s remarks in the videos he posted on his Instagram page gave the impression that he was directly involved in the disputes between the Claimant and Mr. EeZee T; however, these claims were not only untrue but also defamatory and detrimental to the Claimant’s reputation and public image.”
